When Life Changes, Your Yoga Practice Can Too
Life has a way of changing when we least expect it. It’s kind of crazy.
Only takes a few seconds for everything to change. I’ve experienced it too. We all have.
IMaybe you moved to a new neighborhood and are looking for ways to feel connected. Maybe your favorite yoga studio closed, leaving you wondering where to practice next. Perhaps work has become busier, your family has grown, or your body simply doesn't move the way it used to.
Another big one? Priorities just change. Maybe you cant make the same yoga class you used to take, or maybe you don’t have time to make the drive.
Whatever brought you here, know this: your yoga practice doesn't have to stay the same forever.
In fact, it's not supposed to.
Doop Media totally caught Yoga With April in this shoot. Booking in Phoenix!
Your Practice Can Grow With You
One of the things I love most about yoga is that it isn't about keeping up with where you used to be. It's about meeting yourself where you are today. You’re always evolving, so why shouldn’t your practice evolve with you?
There may have been a time when you attended studio classes several days a week. Maybe now your schedule only allows one class. Maybe you've taken a break for months, or even years. That doesn't mean you've failed. It simply means life has changed.
Your yoga practice can change with it. That’s great news!
When Your Routine Changes…
Sometimes the biggest obstacle isn't motivation, it's routine.
A move across town, a new job, changing family responsibilities, or even the closing of a favorite studio can completely shift the habits you've worked so hard to build. Speaking from my own recent changes I got back from two weeks of travel and moved across the city a week later! I am now in that same situation. Finding new studios, adjusting to different commutes.. you get it.
Instead of viewing those changes as the end of your practice, consider them an invitation to discover what works for your life today. Maybe that's trying a different studio. Maybe it's joining a community class closer to home. Maybe it's exploring private yoga in the comfort of your own home.
There isn't one "right" way to practice..
When Your Body Changes
Our bodies are constantly changing. Some seasons bring strength and energy. Others ask us to slow down, recover, or move with more intention. If you've noticed more stiffness, tightness, or aches than you used to, you're not alone.
Your body will hold and carry tension from your daily life. Good days, bad days, and trauma all gets stored in the body. So when you notice those slight changes, it’s important to drop in and notice what has changed in your outside world. Yoga isn't about moving like you did ten years ago. It's about supporting the body you have today.
Some days that means building strength. Other days it means stretching, breathing, or simply taking a few quiet moments for yourself.
Every version of your practice has value.
Starting Again Is Still Progress
One of the most common things I hear is:
"I used to practice all the time."
My response is always the same:
That's wonderful. Let's begin from where you are now.
You don't have to earn your way back into yoga. You don't need to be flexible, strong, or experienced before you start again.
The hardest part is often taking the first step.
Finding What Fits Your Life Today :)
Whether you're returning to yoga after years away, searching for a new studio, exploring private sessions, or simply looking for a healthier routine, remember that your practice should support your life and not add more pressure to it.
If you're here in the East Valley, there are so many ways to begin again. You might discover a local yoga class in Mesa, attend a community wellness event in Gilbert or Chandler, join an outdoor practice, or explore a private in-home session if you're looking for more personalized guidance.
Sometimes the best place to start isn't with a huge commitment, it's simply finding a welcoming community that helps you take the first step.
That's why I love offering a variety of ways to practice with me. Some people join me for weekly classes. in studios near the East Valley. Others prefer private yoga in their home (I come to you!). Throughout the year, you'll also find me teaching at community events, collaborating with local businesses, leading workshops, and creating opportunities to connect through movement. All on my events page.
If you're not quite ready to attend a class, that's okay too. Through Rooted Renewal Wellness Retreats, we also host free online yoga and wellness challenges throughout the year, giving you a chance to build a consistent practice from wherever you are.
There isn't one perfect way to reconnect with yoga.
There is only the way that feels right for you today.
Life changes. Our routines change. Our bodies change.
The beautiful thing about yoga is that it can change with us.
Whether you're looking for yoga in Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, or elsewhere in the East Valley, I hope you find a practice that helps you feel stronger, more grounded, and more connected to yourself. And if our paths cross at a class, community event, workshop, or challenge, I'd be honored to be part of your journey.
